The first issue of Boys' Life appeared in March of 1911... not too many years later it became the official magazine of the Boy Scouts of America, and it has since gone on to over 1,100 issues... and still publishing!
This site began as a "catalog" of the David Britton Collection of Boys' Life a collection which included almost all the issues! I started working with Dave when I was constructing my "Og" pages Og - Son of Fire and I couldn't locate all the original Boys' Life issues which had contained Og stories. Dave was kind enough to scan and send me copies of many of the articles, along with the covers and contents pages of those issues. During that process I developed some pages showing the tables of contents and covers of the issues Dave had supplied.
We'd planned a continuation of that project, realizing that a full reference for Boy's Life was unavailable on the web, and that an index to all the articles, authors and illustrators would be a valuable resource for many researchers. To this end we created a Boys' Life database, but before the project could be realized, Dave was forced to withdraw. So only a limited set appears. In 2007 and 2008, Matt Horbal generously provided scans of the covers and table of contents pages for 1931 and most of 1932.
Selecting a year will bring up thumbnail images of the pages available for that year. All the articles appearing in the contents are indexed, and full author and illustrator indexes for all the pages listed to date are accessible. Clicking on a thumbnail image, will, naturally, bring up the contents page for that issue. Clicking of the larger cover image on that page will bring up a very large cover image.
